-    NIKOLA VUCEVIC NO SHOT TO SHOW HIS POST-MOVES IN DOUG COLLINS SYSTEM

1. Magic 101 Sixers 90 - In a game that saw the 15-42 Philadelphia 76ers host the 17-42 Orlando Magic, former Philadelphia 76ers Center Nikola Vucevic scored 21 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked 3 shots in 34 minutes, on 9-19 FG, 3-4 FT, to help the Magic grab the road win. The 23 year old Montengrin, third year NBA center, never got a shot to show Philadelphia 76ers NBA fans his total game, in his rookie season playing for Doug Collins, who used Vucevic as a sterotype Euro big-man, who plays pick and pop jump shooting basketball. Doug Collins let his guards Jrue Holday, Lou Williams and even Andre Iguodala take most of the shots, in his perimeter based offense, that also started jump shooting center Spencer Hawes and jump shooting Elton Brand at PF in the 2011-12 rookie season of Nikola Vucevic.  The Montenegrin big-man can stick the face-up jump shot, but as EUROJOHNBBALL wrote before in previous articles, Vucevic plays better with his back to the basket, but never got a shot to show those post moves in the Doug Collins system. Coach Collins used Vucevic to set screens for the Sixers guards and Nikola would roll hard to the bucket looking for a pass for an easy layup, (Just as he did with Buducnost in Europe and with the Orlando Magic), but the deep jumpers would instead go up by the Sixers guards. Doug Collins stopped playing Vucevic late in his rookie year and went with Lavoy Allen in the playoffs and then decided to get rid of Nikola when the Sixers brought in Andrew Bynum. The Bynum deal blew up on the Sixers and coach Doug Collins with an injury plauged season that 76ers fans would like to forget about and former NBA first round draft pick Nikola Vucevic found minutes and POST TOUCHES playing in Orlando last season and put up 13.1 PPG and 11.9 REB in 77 games last season and when he rolled hard to the bucket off top of the key screen and roll plays, the Magic guards passed him the ball, just like his Buducnost guards did in his European NBA lockout season. EUROJOHNBBALL does not think it was all the Sixers guards fault for not looking for Vucevic on rolls to the bucket or POST-UP plays, rather it was more the teaching of Doug Collins, who EUROJOHNBBALL thinks, like many NBA coaches of today fall in love with the jumper and forgot about the OLD-School center post-up play.  Coach Collins left the Sixers at the end of last season and went back to talking about it on the TV air and early this year EUROJOHNBBALL heard coach Collins say, that he does not feel the Post-Up game is the way NBA teams win today. Maybe that is why he rarely gave Vucevic or any other 76ers a shot to go to work in the paint. EUROJOHNBBALL remembers one game where this jump-shooting style was so apparent against the Millwaukee Bucks in the 2009-10 season, in a close game at home, that saw Bucks coach Scott Skiles use the size of John Salmons in the post versus Jrue Holiday on THREE straight trips down the court at the end of the game, to create double-team situations for open Bucks shots, but when EUROJOHNBBALL thought to ask Doug Collins at the Post-Game press conference the question, of was their any thought of throwing Jrue Holiday in the post to POST-UP the 5 foot 5 inch Earl Boykins that was on the court at the end of the game, while all the Bucks Post-Up plays were going on by Salmons, the Doug Collins response was (SCOTT SKILES WOULD NEVER LET ME DO THAT).  Of course Scott Skiles would not, he would throw a double-team to help the 5 foot 5 inch Earl Boykins out, which would lead to an open jumper, instead of the step-back jumper off a shake move from the top of the key by Lou Williams for the win.  EUROJOHNBBALL sees Doug Collins on TV today and still remembers the Non Post-Up of Earl Boykins, but what is more puzzling to EUROJOHNBBALL is the thought of Doug Collins signing Kwame Brown to a TWO YEAR DEAL to play center for Philadelphia before the 2012-13 season and it was reported  by John Mitchell of the Philadelphia Inquier that Doug Collins wanted to guarantee FIVE YEARS to Kwame Brown.   Are you kidding me, with all the Big Men in Europe that could help NBA teams, Doug Collins wanted to give Kwame Brown a FIVE YEAR DEAL.  Let us see (The Croatian Pau Gasol) Ante Tomic was available and so was Esteban Batista in Europe along with about 20 other Big Men in Europe, but Doug Collins wanted Kwame Brown.  What is worse never using the Nikola (NOT NIK) Vucevic post-up moves or wanting Kwame Brown for a FIVE YEAR DEAL, think about that, the next time you see Doug Collins on TV without a tie on his suit.  The 23 year old Vucevic has been injured this year, but in 42 games he is averaging 13.9 PPG and 10.8 BEB and again shooting over 50 percent on FG's, just like last season and has enough skill in the post to put up 30 point and 20 rebound games from time to time, but in the pick and pop Doug Collins offensive system, Nikola had little chance of showing his stuff.

-                           EUROLEAGUE TOP 16 ROUND 8 RESULTS

-     FC BARCELONA GO 8-0 ANTE TOMIC ANOTHER EURO CENTER WHO LOVES THE PAINT

1. FC Barcelona 89 Anadolu Efes 84 - Croatian 26 year old, 7 foot 2 inch Center Ante Tomic led FC Barcelona to an 8-0 record in Top 16 play, as he was named MVP for a second straight week by the Euroleague, scoring a game high 26 points, 15 rebounds in 33 minutes, on 11-16 FG, 4-5 FT, as the (Croatian Pau Gasol), who was an NBA 2nd round pick by the Utah Jazz in 2008 did what he does best, GO TO WORK IN THE PAINT WITH POST-MOVES. It makes EUROJOHNBBALL laugh, when listening to NBA radio and hearing comments about Euro big men loving to stay outside and take the deep 3 point shot, because infact when you look at the NBA Center spot, it is the players coming from European leagues, that actually like to play with their backs to the basket, but the STEROTYPE that is out there about Euros, has NBA coaches Kevin McHale, Doug Collins and others using the Euro players more like a Dirk Nowitzki deep shooter, rather than a back to the bucket Nikola Pekovic type of coaching style. Kevin McHale has one of the better back to the basket players in the NBA with Donatas Motiejunas, but NBA fans rarely get to see the nice up and under, or drop step moves, because Kevin McHale is brainwashed that because Motiejunas can stick a deep shot, it is better to use him like Kyle Korver and former NBA coach Doug Collins did the same with Montenegrin Center Nikola (NOT NIK) Vucevic, as Coach Collins ( No Tie on his suit), stuck Nikola outside to take jumpers, rather than use his good low-post moves. It was also funny to see Bill Simmons not wearing a tie Friday night on the NBA pre-game and halftime show on ESPN, as he always wears a tie, but right after EUROJOHNBBALL writes the article that Collins gave up on Nikola Vucevic TOO EARLY, Simmons showed up on ESPN TV, the next night with NO TIE, just like Doug Collins in the same studio, COINCIDENCE, just wondering.      Anyway Ante Tomic got help from Spanish guard Juan Carlos Navarro with 17 points, 11 assists and Greek SF Kostas Papanikolou added 10 points in the FC Barcelona win. Anadolu Efes drop to 2-6 and were led by Greek SF Kostas Vasiliadis and Croatian PG Zoran Planinic with 14 points apiece.

-      DARIO SARIC 20 PTS 14 REB & 9 ASSISTS CIBONA GO TO 14-7 ON THE SEASON

1. Cibona 92 Krka 78 - The top NBA prospect from Europe for the upcoming 2014 NBA draft is still Croatian forward Dario Saric, who chose to stay in Europe one more year and not remain in the 2013 NBA draft. The versatile 19 year old, 6 foot 10 inch point-forward had one of his best games this year with Cibona going for 20 points in 37 minutes, on 7-12 FG, 1-2(3PT), 5-6 FT and grabbed 14 rebounds, while dishing 9 assists to help Cibona go to 14-7 in Adriatic league play. Dario Saric is averaging 16.2 PPG, 8.8 REB & 3.0 Assists per game this year in 21 Adriatic league games.  Cibona was led in scoring by 30 year old forward Marin Rozic with a great 27 point game, on 10-11 FG, 5-6(3PT), 2-2 FT, Krka drop to 9-12 and were led by 22 year old Slovenian forward Edo Muric with 19 points, on 7-15 FG, 4-7(3PT), 1-1 FT, 7 rebounds.

-     BOSNIAN 19 YEAR OLD CENTER JUSUF NURKIC 16 PTS 15 REB IN CEDEVITA WIN

2. Cedevita 78 Radnicki 61 - Bosnian 19 year old, 7 foot tall, 270 pound Center Jusuf Nuric, may have boosted his NBA draft stock value with a great 16 point, 15 rebound Adriatic league game in just 20 minutes of play, on 5-7 FG, 6-7 FT, to help Cedevita go to 16-5 on the season, while Radnicki drop to 8-13. The center spot in the NBA has been filled by European league big men in recent years and Nurkic could be another European player, who likes to play with his back to the basket to join the NBA next season. Jusuf Nurkic is averaging 11.6 PPG, 5.6 REB in just 16.2 minutes per game with Cedevita in 21 Adriatic league games this season. Former Duke University and NBA PG Nolan Smith led Cedevita with 17 points, on 7-13 FG, 2-3(3PT), 1-1 FT, 7 assists and Radnicki was led in scoring by Serbian PF Marko Brkic with 16 points, on 4-9 FG, 3-6(3PT), 5-5 FT.
