EJBB keeps writing the same piece EVERY YEAR that Greek legend Nikos Galis does not get his proper RESPECT from the Naismith Hall of Fame, as the International pick for 2016 is Yao Ming from China. The former Houston Rocket beat out Greek legend Nikos Galis and his 33 point per game career in Europe, along with Yugolavian/Serbian Center Vlade Divac, Yugoslavian/Croatian SF Toni Kukoc and Israeli Guard Tal Brody. EJBB says Yao Ming put basketball on the map in China and probably MORE IMPORTANTLY PUT THE NBA ON THE MAP IN CHINA, # that is why he gets in over Nikos Galis, who put basketball on the map in Greece in the 1980's as he was the DOMINANT SCORER of the decade, as he TORCHED already inducted Naismith Hall of Famers, Oscar Schmidt, Drazen Petrovic, Arvydas Sabonis and Sarunas Marciulionis for PLUS 40 point games and was the Allen Iverson of Europe with Steve Nash, John Stockton and Isaiah Thomas type of ability to pass the ball also with the assist game.
Nick Galis played for Bill (ONIONS) Raftery at Seton Hall Uniiversity and averaged 27 PPG and shot 57.6 percent on FG shooting in his senior year in 1979 and would have played with Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics in the NBA, if not for an injury in the preseason, so he went to Greece and put basketball on the map leading Greece to a Eurobasket Gold medal in 1987, averaging 37 PPG in the tourney and led Greece to a 1989 Silver medal scoring 45 points in the semis versus Russia, the same Russian squad that beat USA in the 1988 Olympics and Galis torched Sarunas Marciulionis and Arvydas Sabonis with that 45 point game in the win for Greece 81-80, you read it RIGHT, Galis had 45 of the Greek 81 points.
Galis putting basketball on the map in Greece, led to other Greek PG's in later years, like Vassilis Spanoulis, Theo Papaloukas and Dimitris Diamantidis wanting to copy the 1987 Gold medal win over Russia, so they started playing basketball and led Greece to the 2005 Eurobasket Gold medal, beating Tony Parker and Boris Diaw in the Semis and Dirk Nowitzki in the Gold medal game and Greece is the last international squad to defeat LeBron James, Coach K and USA basketball, with a 101-95 Semis win in 2006 FIBA World championship. Spanoulis, Papaloukas and Diamantidis DOMINATED the Euroleague for the past decade leading Olympiacos, CSKA Moscow and Panathinaikos to the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Euroleague titles and in the end EJBB says the reason LeBron and Coach K lost that game to Greece is because Nikos Galis was torching teams for 40 plus point games for over a decade, but that was not enough to get Greek legend Nikos Galis into Naismith in 2016.
EJBB says that the International pick should JUST BE TAKEN OUT if the Iverson of the 1980's can not get his PROPER respect after TORCHING Europe for 33 PPG every time he took the court, Yao Ming had a nice NBA regular seaon career and put lots of money in NBA pockets, as China started to watch NBA games, but if it is about production in big time games versus already inducted Naismith Hall of famers, then Galis should be in over Yao Ming, as Yao could only DREAM of beating Russia in 1989 with a 45 point game in an 81-80 game and again Galis in Greece led to Spanoulis, Papaloukas and Diamantidis dominance later, WHERE is the DOMINANCE from the Chinese basketball league that Yao Ming made play basketball ?
In the end it is all about MONEY, the great wins by Galis in the 1980's that led to the Greek 101-95 win over NBA stars in 2006 means little as Nikos Galis is on the OUTSIDE looking in again even though he is a LEGEND to those that REALLY KNOW THE GAME OF BASKETBALL. The Greatest coach in NBA history Phil Jackson also thinks Galis NOT IN NAISMITH IS A JOKE.
